The Character Bee, similar to a spelling bee, is an opportunity to for CI students to develop mastery of the Chinese characters and participate in a fun and friendly competition. The event details are found here: https://www.bcic220.org/event/character-bee/. Volunteers please plan to arrive early.
BCIC is seeking native Mandarin-speakers to serve as judges. The Character Bee will be organized by grade level. Judges will serve on a panel with another native Mandarin-speakers and a BHS student-volunteer. Judges will attend a training session prior to the event. All judges must be familiar with the rules and procedures as found here: Character Bee rules and procedures.
We are also seeking BHS CI student or Adult volunteers to serve as hosts and assistants.
- Hosts will welcome participants and their families, check them in to the Bee and direct them to their room. Some hosts will set up and oversee the refreshment table.
- Judges’ assistants will help keep time and keep score (Juniors and Senior BHS students, please)
- BHS Students are eligible to receive service credit for participating.
